Princeton’s admission process goes beyond simply looking for academically accomplished students. For each freshman class, we bring together a varied mix of high-achieving, intellectually gifted students from diverse backgrounds to create an exceptional learning community. We care about what students have accomplished in and out of the classroom. The process is highly selective. In recent years, we've offered admission to only about 10 percent of applicants.
If possible, we expect students will complete the following courses before beginning study at Princeton:
Academic Preparation:
- Four years of English (including continued practice in writing)
- Four years of mathematics (including calculus for students interested in engineering)
- Four years of one foreign language
- At least two years of laboratory science (including physics and chemistry for students interested in engineering)
- At least two years of history
In addition, most candidates have had some study in the visual or performing arts.
